For families waiting for a speech pathology appointment

Keep the words and questions while you wait.

A referral can come with a wait of months. Gestalts is an app for parents that gives you somewhere to keep the words, moments and questions that come up in the meantime, ready to talk through when your first appointment arrives. You do not need a diagnosis or a label to start.

What Gestalts helps with

Start before the appointment exists

You can save a word your child said, something that helped or a question you want to ask from the day the referral goes in. Nothing you save needs a diagnosis or a stage behind it. Write down what you noticed, in your own words.

Illustrative example: “Thursday, at the shops: said ‘all done, let’s go’ when we got to the checkout. Question for the first appointment: is it useful to write these down?”

This is an example of a parent’s note, not an interpretation of a child’s communication.

Keep the exact words

Save the exact word or phrase your child used, add what was happening and why you wanted to remember it, and keep the date with it, instead of trying to describe it from memory later.

Save the lovely moments, the hard ones and the things you want to ask about. You do not need to keep a perfect diary.

Keep notes for the person you are waiting to see

Add the speech pathologist or clinic you are waiting for and mark it as a waiting list, so the details are there when the appointment is booked. Keep saving your questions and observations in the meantime.

When the appointment is booked

With Prepare, you can prepare an introduction for a new speech pathologist from the notes you select, then read and edit it before you share it. It is a summary in your words, not a clinical report.

The free Starter plan lets you export the notes you select without AI rewriting. Compare plans and prices in Australian dollars.

Widen the search while you wait

Some practices have shorter waits than others, and many offer online appointments. Our directory lists speech pathologists by state and by online availability. Practitioners write their own listings. Gestalts approves each one before it appears, and a listing is not an endorsement or a referral.

Find a speech pathologist.

Things other families did while waiting

Ask about cancellation lists, hearing checks and what your GP can arrange while you wait. Our resource library has guides for families. This is general information, not advice about your child.

Common questions

Clear answers

Can I use Gestalts before a first appointment?
Yes. You can save notes and questions while waiting for an appointment, before meeting a speech pathologist for the first time, or between visits. You do not need to connect with a practitioner to start saving notes.
Do I need a diagnosis to start?
No. You can save notes and questions without a diagnosis, a label or a language stage. Gestalts does not assess your child or identify a stage. That work belongs with a qualified speech pathologist.
What does it cost while I wait?
The Starter plan is free and includes saving notes and exporting the notes you select without AI rewriting. Prepare adds summaries and reports for you to review before sharing. Current prices are on the pricing page in Australian dollars.
Who can see what I save?
Your notes stay private unless you choose to share them. If you later connect with a speech pathologist, you decide which types of notes they can see, and you can change or remove access.
Does Gestalts replace a speech pathologist?
No. Gestalts helps families organise what they notice and prepare for conversations. Assessment, diagnosis, clinical interpretation and therapy decisions belong with qualified professionals.
